Gas station canopy and pump pad cleaning in Jacksonville, NC

Fuel stations have a specific problem: the concrete is saturated with hydrocarbons, and water does nothing to it.

Pump pads take a continuous load of fuel drips, oil and traffic film that soaks into the slab. Pressure alone spreads it. The pad needs degreasing, dwell time and hot agitation before it will actually lift, and the runoff has to be handled rather than pushed into the nearest inlet.

The canopy is the other half. Underside panels and the area directly above the pumps collect exhaust film and road grime, and because the canopy is white on most brands it shows badly. Columns, light surrounds and the pump islands themselves get done at the same time.

Most of this work happens overnight, because the pumps need to be down while it is being done.

How this work is handled

  • Overnight or low-traffic scheduling, with pumps down by lane
  • Degreaser applied with proper dwell rather than pressure alone
  • Runoff contained and handled responsibly, not sent to a storm inlet
  • Electrical at dispensers and canopy lighting treated with the appropriate caution
  • Lane-by-lane staging so the site can keep trading where possible

Questions

Questions about gas station canopy and pump pad cleaning

Do the pumps need to be shut down?

Lane by lane, yes. We stage the work so the whole site does not go offline at once where the layout allows it, which is why most of this happens overnight.

Can you get old fuel staining out of the concrete?

It lightens substantially with proper degreasing and hot water. Hydrocarbons that have been soaking into a porous slab for years have penetrated below the surface, so a pad that has never been maintained will improve dramatically without reaching bare concrete.
