Wood is soft, and a pressure washer held too close will tear the surface fibres open. The board looks clean for a week and then goes fuzzy, holds water, and greys out faster than it did before. That is furring, and it is not recoverable without sanding.
We clean decking at low pressure with a solution that lifts the grey oxidised layer and the mildew underneath it. The grain stays closed, the colour comes back, and the board is left in a condition where it can actually take a stain if you plan to seal it afterwards.

Questions about deck cleaning
Can you clean a composite deck?
Yes, and composite still needs it. Composite does not rot, but mildew grows happily on the surface film and in the grain texture. It cleans at lower pressure than wood.
Will the deck look brand new?
It will look dramatically better, and the natural colour comes back. What cleaning cannot fix is physical damage — split boards, popped fasteners, previous furring or failed stain. We will tell you which category your deck is in when we quote it.
